CD's From My Collection: My Bloody Valentine: EP's 1988-1991 (Re-mastered)

My Bloody Valentine are a group that have become slowly over time one of my favourites. Loveless I bought the year after it came out (20 odd years ago!) and although I liked it it did not hook itself into my unconscious like similar bands of the era-Galaxie 500, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur JR or Spacemen 3 and Loop. It's a shame they only brought out two albums and these EP's.  Dreamy psychedelic melodies but shot through with dissonance-it doesn't get better then this. Also it now has the added hit of nostalgia.

CD's From My Collection: Sleep: Dopesmoker (1999)

Sleep's hour long Stoner magnum opus re-issued by Southern Lord. A Trance inducing doom riff and start go structure throughout takes you on a cosmic journey, driven by Al Cisneros (Om) incredible bass playing. Metal goes spiritual.

DVD's From My Collection: The Aki Kaurismaki Collection: Vol. 1: Shadows In Paradise (1986), Ariel( 1988), The Match Factory Girl (1990)

Finnish filmmaker Aki Kaurismaki's films are distinctively sad, deadpan comedies about the losers and outcasts of our capitalist society. Deceptively simple tales, with elements of silent melodrama (see The Match Factory Girl), they are totally distinctive and surprisingly heart warmimg. These three early films in this Artificial Eye boxset are no exception.
