An odd mixture of pulp noir, Lovecraft & golden age SF from Gene Wolfe. Like Adam Roberts in Strange Horizons I don't know what to make of this one-the bad dialogue, gender and racial stereotypes are off putting. But I enjoyed An Evil Guest nonetheless and I am sure I would pick up hidden depths if I had time to re-read the novel.
